Firefighters from Cornelius and other neighboring towns on Sunday attended a special truck dedication ceremony at Outcast Kustoms in Mooresville. The shop unveiled it?s latest custom truck ? a pink fire truck to be used for breast cancer awareness. Also this week, Cornelius firefighters helped extinguish a brush fire near mile marker 31 of I-77 Northbound, and assisted Huntersville firefighters in investigating a report of smoke. Read below for details of these and other calls.
FIREFIGHTERS SUPPORT CANCER AWARENESS

Firefighters headed to Outcast Kustoms Sunday morning to get a first glimpse of the newly-completed breast cancer awareness truck.
The Lake Norman Volunteer Fire Department donated a truck they were retiring to the Iredell County Firefighter?s Association, who then gave it to Outcast Kustoms to work their magic. They painted the truck pink, and installed special features, including big screen televisions in some of the compartments on which to show educational videos about breast cancer. They also installed a t-shirt gun on the top on the truck. The truck will be used to promote breast cancer awareness.

FIRE REPORTS MARCH 2 ? MARCH 9
SATURDAY, MARCH 3, 9:21 a.m., 19700 block of Smith Circle ? Chief Jim Barbee helped get a cheese puff container off a child?s head. The child showed no signs of difficulty breathing, and no injury.
MONDAY, MARCH 5, 8:50 p.m., 10500 block of Cobb Street, Huntersville ? Firefighters responded to a possible structure fire after a caller reported smelling smoke. Upon investigation, there was no fire and firefighters were cleared from the scene.
THURSDAY, MARCH 8, 12:45 p.m., I-77 NB at Mile Marker 31 ? Firefighters responded to a small brush fire reported on the side of I-77 northbound near mile marker 31. The fire was under control when they arrived and IMAP had it almost out. Cornelius firefighters helped extinguish it.
FALSE ALARMS: Firefighters also responded to five calls that were either canceled while crews were en route or crews arrived to find nothing wrong.
MEDICAL CALLS: In addition to the fire calls, Cornelius crews responded to 17 medical / EMS calls, including a seizure, a fall, breathing difficulty and a psychological problem, among others. Patient privacy laws prohibit public release of addresses or other details of medical calls.
